June Recap: AUTHENTICITY

Hey lovely people
Happy New month.
Let’s start with the bit where we applaud each other for the first recap blog post that comes on time. We are slaying this procrastination thing one post at a time.

The June flight here at Tales of a curious mind dropped us off somewhere between the Namib and the Kalahari, No, I am not talking about the weather. I am talking about that added social media tax that has Ugandans virtually living in the diaspora (if you know you know) but this is a story I can tell better over a hot cup of cappuccino.

Speaking of coffee, June felt something like coffee before you embark on a crazy day. You are alert as the night but then you could also just find yourself sleeping in longer.
On many days I had to submerge my mind back into the core of my being to remind myself of who I am in a world constantly trying to influence this.
It was a question of Popularity versus Authenticity. That there are so many ideas that are held by a certain class of people or a majority of the elite and we are often prone to adopt them simply because of the need to fit in. Standing aloof has never been easy, I’ll tell you, ask humpty dumpty. It’s always more comfortable to be part of the throng instead of risking disagreeing especially with the people you once looked up too. But June reminded me of a quote I shared here last year “Be you, the world will adjust.” I realized the importance of finding your voice in a crowd and living your life in a society that will have you adopt to their prescribed way of life. But well “If you don’t live your life whose going to live it?”

Still about our June adventures I have been very intentional with our theme this year. If you are reading here for the first time, this year is all about “Kindness to self”
I shared my hustle with this in the previous recap blog post.. It’s been crazy I’ll tell you. Last month I decided to read books that add warmth into my life. I deliberately read books that were a blend of positive vibes and self love. If you want in simply leave me your email in the comment section and I’ll gladly make your month (see my vanity)

For July I am crawling out of my skin to risk crazy things. I am shooting my shot at so many choices I have been a fraid of. Like Shonda Rhymes, I am saying yes to love, to happiness and authentic relationships. You see Lisa Bevere has been teaching me some Dope girl moves in her book “Girls with Swords” and I am not settling for anything other than authentic.

This July, I am sending you lots of hugs and blessings. I pray that love fills the chambers of your heart so much that it overflows to water the people and places around you. I pray that the things your heart pants after find themselves your way. I pray that in spite of the number of times you have fallen you find the strength to get up and keep on keeping on. I pray that you grow, your skin glows and your hair frows.
Rest, hydrate, exfoliate (REPEAT)
Here is a toast to a beautiful month. Happy New month, again.
